SWITCH-Asia Eco-Fair Project welcomes Frans Timmermans, Vice President of the European Commission to Vietnam and showcases sustainable products and achievements

On February 18, 2021, at the Tra Ta space in Hanoi, the European Union funded SWITCH-Asia project “Promotion of supply and demand of eco-fair agri-food processing products in Vietnam” (Eco-Fair project) had the honor to welcome Mr. Frans Timmermans, Permanent Vice President of the European Commission, Mr. Giorgio Aliberti, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam Nam and other European Union delegates during their visit to Vietnam.

The Hiep Thanh Company, the SWITCH-Asia Eco-Fair project and its team members from the Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute (VIRI), Helvetas,  the YenBai Center for Science Technology Development and Community Health care (CDSH) are among those partners who have welcomed the delegates during their visit.

Dr. Bao Thoa, Director of Eco-Fair, introduced the project and its achievements, and showcased to EU delegates a number of sustainable products from Eco-Fair beneficiaries. Delegates could taste first hand EU organic certified cashew nuts from the True Coop Cooperative, nuts candy of the Hien Bao group and Fairtrade certified coffee products from the Eatu Cooperative were also displayed during the visit.

Finally, Dr. Nguyen Bao Thoa expressed her gratitude to the European Union for funding the Eco-Fair project, one that is addressing sustainable supply chain management focusing on green trade and facilitating the integration of MSMEs into international supply chains. She also remarked the importance of this project in supporting policy development on eco-fair production and consumption in Vietnam and the region, while raising consumers’ awareness on eco-fair labels and SCP.
