Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute (VIRI)
The Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute (VIRI) is a leading organization in Vietnam working for the sustainable development of rural industry and for improvement of living standards of disadvantage people in a sustainable manner.
VIRI is a prestige organization in Vietnam for its research and consultancy work in strategy development, market assessment, cultural studies, value chain, rural industries product development, etc. VIRI has built up master plans as well as national export strategies for the Government of Vietnam in handicraft, furniture and some agricultural sectors.
With over 20 years of operation, VIRI has supported more than 200 SMEs and cooperatives and created products with high economic values, with respect to traditional cultures and friendly to the environment. The SMEs and cooperatives supported by VIRI have become independent and contributed greatly to the local development. By resolving economic problems, many living conditions within the households have been improved, women are empowered, culture is preserved and environment is respected.
Since 2019, VIRI is an associate partner of International Trade Center (ITC) which focus on sustainable production and consumption as well as voluntary sustainable certificates and link with local and international markets. VIRI is also an official WFTO’s associate in Vietnam which inspire fair trade philosophy in Vietnam.
VIRI is currently active in fifty-nine of Vietnam’s sixty-three provinces and cities and contributes considerably to poverty reduction efforts in rural areas. In the coming years, VIRI will also work in Laos, Cambodia and expand operations into other countries in the region
